ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਥੈਰੇਪੀ · Therapy in Punjabi

A Punjabi-speaking therapist in Calgary.

Finding a counsellor who shares your language — and the cultural context behind it — matters more than most things. Sessions can move between Punjabi and English freely; you don’t need to pick one.

Why language matters

More than translation.

Therapy works through language — and language carries culture, family structure, religion, and expectations that don’t always translate cleanly to English.

Working with a therapist who speaks Punjabi means you can describe an experience the way you actually feel it. It means a therapist who already understands the weight of izzat, the texture of joint-family dynamics, intergenerational expectations, and the specific shape of mental-health stigma in Punjabi-speaking communities.

Family sessions in Punjabi (or Punjabi–English mix) are particularly common for parent–teen and parent–adult-child work — bringing in family members whose primary language is Punjabi without requiring them to navigate therapy in English.

Practicalities

A few things worth knowing.

Are sessions covered by insurance?

Most extended health plans cover Registered Psychologists and Registered Provisional Psychologists. Direct billing is available with Blue Cross.

Can I bring a family member who only speaks Punjabi?

Yes. Family sessions are available in Punjabi or in a Punjabi–English mix, depending on who is in the room.

What if my teen prefers English?

That’s often the case. Sessions can be entirely in English with a Punjabi-speaking therapist — the value is the cultural fluency, not the language itself. The language used in the room is whatever the client prefers.

In-person or online?

Both. Sessions at our Calgary office (2640 30 St SW) or by encrypted video for clients across Alberta.

Twenty minutes. On the phone. Free.

Tell us what’s going on and ask anything — insurance, format, fees, what a first session looks like. You’ll be on the call with one of our therapists, and we’ll go from there together. If we’re not the right practice for you, we’ll say so.
